Hello Riders,
We want to address the performance of the thermal management system on your 80V bike, particularly during aggressive riding. If you push the bike hard, you will experience the system engaging to regulate temperature. Please be assured that this is a normal and intentional safety feature designed to protect the motor and battery; there is nothing wrong with your bike.
Our team is actively developing a firmware update to refine this experience. We have heard your feedback and agree that the current power reduction can feel abrupt. The goal of the update is to create a smoother, less intrusive system by implementing a more gradual power taper and potentially raising the activation threshold.
We are aiming to release this firmware update after we return from the Electrify Expo in NYC. It will be available for download on our website.



In the meantime, here are some helpful tips for managing heat and optimizing your ride with the current firmware:
Understand the triggers: Continuous use of Hyper or Sport mode, especially while accelerating quickly or climbing hills, will raise system temperatures and engage the thermal protection. The duration of high-power riding will vary depending on the terrain and your riding style.
Managing power reduction: When the system engages, you may notice a warning and a reduction in power. If you temporarily push through this, you can maintain higher speeds, but the system will fully re-engage once you release the throttle.
Recommended technique: When the thermal management engages, we recommend switching to Normal mode for a few minutes. This allows the system to cool efficiently, after which you can typically return to Sport or Hyper mode for another high-performance run.
Use Hyper Mode strategically: The 80V platform is significantly more powerful than our 72V line, and as a result, it generates heat more quickly under intense use. Hyper Mode is designed for short bursts of maximum performance and will heat the system rapidly. Using it moderately will extend your available time in all modes before you see the warning messages.
This behavior is consistent with high-performance electric vehicles, including our 72V models when tuned for maximum output (e.g., "Sikko Mode"), which also experiences "heat lag" after demanding use.

The new 45Ah ONYX batteries use QS8 discharge connectors. If your bike still uses the older red Anderson SB50-style connector, you'll need to swap out your main battery cable to be QS8-compatible.
Anderson-style battery leads are not compatible with the new 45Ah ONYX batteries.
| 01 | Remove the Righthand Side PanelTo access one of the five panel screws, you'll need to remove the seat. If you do not have a rear rack installed, you can instead loosen the four seat nuts and slide the seat backward and out of the way. |

This guide is for riders installing the ONYX 45Ah 72V battery into their RCR.
The 45Ah uses a QS8 connector. If your RCR has an Anderson connector, you'll need to upgrade your battery cable.
Battery fits like a 41Ah / 23Ah unit. Tilt the battery slightly — seat side down first — for a clean fit.
